Rings

The most reliable way is to bring in a ring you already wear on that finger — we will measure it while you wait. To measure at home, wrap a strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it meets, and measure the length in millimetres. Fingers swell in heat and at the end of the day, so measure when you are warm rather than first thing on a cold morning. Our size guide has the full conversion table.

Most can. Plain and lightly set bands resize easily in either direction. Full eternity rings and rings with stones all the way round cannot be resized, because there is no plain metal to cut and rejoin — for those we remake to the new size. Resizing is free within the first year of purchase.

Platinum is the most hard-wearing and holds a stone most securely, which is why it is the traditional choice for engagement rings. 18k gold is softer and will show fine scratches over years of wear, which most people come to like. Sterling silver is the softest and will tarnish in air, though a silver cloth restores it in moments.

Flat, smooth surfaces can — a signet face, or the inside of a band. Pavé and cluster settings cannot, because there is no unbroken surface to cut. Where engraving is available you will see the option on the product page, with the character limit for that piece. Engraving is free and adds two to three working days. Engraved pieces cannot be returned.

A solitaire holds one stone, usually raised in a claw setting so light reaches it from every side. Pavé sets many small stones flush into the metal so the surface reads as continuous brilliance. A solitaire shows off a single fine stone; pavé gives more sparkle across the whole ring for the same outlay.
